INTRODUCTION
A.   Background
 Language as the tool of communication has an important role to reveal an intention to someone else. People will be able to express their thought and feeling by using language. Language, communication and life can not be separated. Language can be applied in many aspects, such as: education, society, politics, economics, and culture. One of the ways in communication is through speaking.
Speaking is one of the important and essential skills that must be practised to communicate orally. By
speaking people are able to know what kinds of situations the world. People who have ability in speaking will be better in sending and receiving information or message to another. Speaking is the process of building and sharing meaning through the use of verbal and non verbal symbol in various contexts.
According to Stevick (1982: 103) speaking refers to the gap between linguistic expertise and teaching methodology. Linguistic expertise concerns with language structure and language content. Teaching speaking is not like listening, reading, and writing. It needs habit formation because it is a real communication. The speaking needs to be practiced as often as?????

INTRODUCTION

This chapter describes the background, problem statement, the objective of the research, the significance of the research, and the scope of the research.

A. Background

Vocabulary is a key to master English because by mastering vocabulary, it is easier for students to understand English. In other words, most of text books are written in English, Alwasilah in Maryam (2003: 1) point out that at least 60% of scientific books are written in English, while the people who can read and understand English are still limit, if  they don’t master vocabulary. In order to master English, the elements of
language skills such as grammatical structure, vocabulary, and sound system must be taught to the students as the prerequisite knowledge toward the English language use and skills because language is characterized by these elements.
 On of the element of English involve in the language skills is vocabulary. Vocabulary is only needed to convey what one wish to say that is organized by Grammar. The ability to communicate and to convey our social needs could not establish without having enough vocabulary as Williams(1978:11) acknowledge that:
“We would accept that vocabulary will be initially less important than grammar. The fact is that while without grammar very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary, nothing can be conveyed, what are normally teach of as vocabulary, item, hours, verbs and adjective do included contain more than a sequence of lexical item with grammatical information other words and yet we have no difficulty in understanding them”.
The reality shows that without vocabulary building, students cannot communicate his or her ideas, emotions, feelings, and desires. It is impossible communication without words. It means that words are?????

A.    Research Background
English as one of the international languages where almost all of the countries entire the world learn and use it, makes English as the most popular language in the world, not only as the second language but also as a foreign language. Indonesia is one of the countries where English as the foreign language had developed it as one of the optional subjects for high school since in 1994 curriculum, while in 2004 curriculum, it had been emphasized about the position of English in curriculum framework as the local content. It means that in
educational field, Indonesia has developed English just more fifteen years, both in curriculum framework as in document and in practical in the classroom.
In Indonesian educational field nowadays, English had been developed in variety of ways. Many kinds of models and teaching method had been presented in the class to make English more fun to be learnt. Especially for grammar class, where English looks very difficult with formula and rules, it needs to apply attractive methods in teaching and learning process in the classroom. The traditional grammar method in teaching English begins to be left and comes to the more improved methods. Furthermore, English does not only focus on the language learning but more to the language use.
Teaching English will be concerned with the capability of the student to produce what they have learnt, than just become the competence that might be student doesn’t know how to????????

1.1   Background
Teaching English in our country has been developed extensively because English is an international language in the world. Therefore, Indonesian government has brought it as a local since at the elementary school. In teaching English vocabulary as an element or language is considered as the most important factor in increasing the mastered if the students are still lacking of vocabulary. Vocabulary is a part of language learning that need continuing growth and development by both native and non native speakers long after
grammar and pronunciation elementary school until senior high Scholl. In language teaching preparation program in our country, more and attention being given to improve some technique for teaching vocabulary.
Learning vocabulary as a foreign language seems easy but some students feel fear. The teacher of English should find out solution by crating efficient and effective technique of teaching in teaching English vocabulary, besides that, the teachers should establish condition which makes teaching vocabulary possible. The learning will occur within reasonable period of time.
Realizing how important the vocabulary and how difficult students to build up the teachers of English have provided students with rich exciting exercise which are expected to help vocabulary mush be???????????????????????

A.    Background
Nowadays, English language is very important to our lives. This language is use world- widely in sciences, knowledge and technology, as well as education business, and other activities in the world. In the past, the Indonesia students start learning English at junior High Scholl (SMP) as a compulsory subject. The process continues to Senior High Scholl (SMA). In fact, English is also taught in some elementary schools as
the local content lesson and even in some kindergartens.
In learning language English there are four skills that should be master in learning; they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing.Those are very important for English learners. Reading skill is one of the main points to master English because a lot of students have opinion that reading an important target, with reading they can get information and entertainment beside for their career and study target. So that’s why I will focus on reading skill in my research. As support for students in improving reading skill, student have to be give knowledge about component of language, such as knowledge about vocabulary, structure, pronunciation; sound for help their skill language.
