INCREASING THE STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO WRITE DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH THROUGH VISUAL-SPATIAL INTELLIGENCE STRATEGY


CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
A.      Background 
Language plays an important role in human life. Language is used for communication. By using language, someone could make statement, convey fact and knowledge explain or report something, and keep social relation among language users. Language acquisition is divided into four major skill, those are speaking, listening, reading and writing. We cannot deny that writing is the difficult subject of the four major language skills. There are many difficulties that the students face in writing such as: content and vocabulary. They are the main factors that must be concerned in writing.
Content is significant aspect in writing. In content, EFL (English as Foreign Language) students may lack the ability to express clear main ideas. The way students form phrases often influences the audiences' understanding of the written content. Writing in English might be difficult for EFL students because they are
not used to stating their point clearly, so their audience may not be able to follow their intricate writing style and understand the main ideas of the text. 
Another common error in writing is namely vocabulary. Vocabulary is one of language aspect dealing with the process of writing. The writer always thinks about putting words into sentences and then putting sentences into paragraph until they can create a piece of writing. It is clear now that we cannot write or express our ideas if we are lack of vocabulary. Therefore, the students are difficult in writing because they are lack of it. Written English is linguistically different from spoken English, and it requires knowledge of lower-frequency words that students rarely or never use in speaking. 
The other factors of the students’ in writing skill is they are lack of ideas and less of competence in organizing ideas. Sometimes students, when they are asked to write, they do not know what they are going to write because they do not have enough ideas to write or they cannot organize well their ideas in the form of paragraph. Finally the students feel anxious when they attempt to write.
To solve the problems above the teacher has to find out interesting teaching strategy and more creative to motivate students in writing process. Therefore, one simplest way of making writing more creative and meaningful to the students is to have the students write something about picture, maps, charts, movies, etc. by using Visual-Spatial Intelligence strategy. Visual-spatial Intelligence is one kind of multiple intelligences theory which has been demonstrated by Howard Gardner In1980’s. Visual-spatial intelligence when used in education, it will be a learning strategy
Visual-Spatial Intelligence Strategy will help the students to construct their mind to think what they are going to write. As we know that one of the difficulty of writing is we lack of ideas. Whereas, when the students will be commanded to write about picture, maps, charts, movies, etc. they will have many ideas. Because of visualization is well – known for the all of people.
As the writer experiences, the students in general are very hard to compose writing a paragraph, so their ability and even motivation to write are very low. Nevertheless, the writer then has an idea to think and solve the problem by using visual-spatial intelligence strategy to improve their ability in descriptive paragraph writing. This may be enjoyable for the students because they will not be???????????????????????

Could Improving the students’ vocabulary using network vocabulary technique

A.  Background
Language is important means for human communication. It is used to make an interaction with other people in society and also it is used to express emotion, feeling, and opinion within the language. Vocabulary has an important role in all aspects of language skills. Someone cannot express his idea without has enough vocabulary.
Vocabulary is one of the elements in four language skill, namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Without understanding vocabulary, the students will be finding some difficulties. Therefore, the students must have knowledge vocabulary because it can positively facilitate the students to use English
effectively in their communication, in other words, it leads the students to use English well.
The students cannot express their communicative needs (ideas, emotion) to someone clearly because have lacking vocabulary. The students cannot communicate and grasp someone ideas that are transmitted to their, therefore vocabulary is regarded as the most essential aspect in English. It does not only influence oral form, peaking and listening but also written and reading. Obviously, vocabulary affects the four language skills as a keg to succeed in mastering in those skills. 
From the statement previously, it is fact that vocabulary is very important for those, who wants to master English well. There are many factor that the students will master English vocabulary such as the interest, motivation, or using some method in the classroom. To teach in the classroom the teacher should a good technique are preparation in teaching because the technique can help the students to understanding more the lesson
 One of the techniques which can be used in teaching English vocabulary is network vocabulary. Teaching vocabulary by using vocabulary network is good to improve vocabulary achievement of the students, because the students can find new words. Besides that vocabulary network is ????????????????????????

Teaching Speaking Skill by using pakem approach at the second years at Smp X (PTK)

INTRODUCTION
A.Background
Language is an international part of human being in their lives without a language life in the society would be impossible.teachers use language to communicate with the students or their colleagues to give explanation about the subject, to distribute their knowledge. Language consist of four skills namely : listening, reading, speaking, and writing. These skills are divided into two parts. The first part is productive skills and the second part is receptive skills.  Productive skills are speaking and writing. As well as receptive skills are listening and reading.
English as an international language plays an important role for communication in indonesia: it is becoming more and more important with the involvement of the goverment in the teaching english. The
english teachers are insisted to be creative to design many communicate activities in the classroom. The motivate students to use the language actively and productively. Anyhow, it is not easy for the teachers to guide the students to speak english in that classroom. Especially in speaking class since many students are frightening to give small talk in the classroom  (Vasille and Muliati 1990 : 50)
According to Harmer (2001:1) a lingua franca can be defined as a language widely adopted for communication between two speaker whose native language are different from each other’s and where one or both speakers are using it as a second language. In other words, it is used for communication between two speaker who have different native languages and they use more than one language as a second language. 
In Indonesia English is taught at SMP (junior high school), SMU (senior high school), in university, many courses and it has also been taught at SD ( elementary school). knowing that english is quite significant for indonesia in the future,the goverment always makes effort to improve the quality of english teaching. By improving the quality of teachers and other components in educational proccess, hopefully the english teaching can improved. One of the improvements of the english teaching deals with syllabus which is reflected in the materials given to the students.
Data from the school that, students have a low motivation to study english. They think english is very difficult subject, Beside that english is the second language in our country. so as a teacher we must creative to create  new learning, in other that students think english is very easy and fun to learn.
According To School Based On Curriculum Degree 2006 (KTSP, 2006:278) the aim of the english teaching in indonesia especially teaching english to junior high school is to enable students to have the ability in developing communicative competence in both oral and written form in achieving functional literacy level, to have the awareness about the essence and the important of ?????????????????????

Enhancing the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery through Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy at the Second Year Students of MAN X


CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A.    Background
Language as a tool of communication cannot be separated from human life. It is used to communicate in order to fulfill our needs in social interaction. Language can be used in written or oral communication. Communication is a message being transmitted from a speaker to a listener; both speaker and listener need vocabulary to communicate each other.
Vocabulary is an important element in four language skills, namely reading, writing, speaking and listening. Without understanding vocabulary, the students will find some difficulties. Therefore, the students must have knowledge of vocabulary because it can positively facilitate the students to use English effectively in their communication. In other
words, it leads the students to master and to use English well.
The students cannot express their communicative needs (ideas, emotion) to someone clearly because of lacking vocabulary. The students are not able to master English if they are still lack of vocabulary (Allen in Sattari, 2006). The students cannot communicate and  grasp someone’s ideas that are transmitted to them, therefore vocabulary is regarded as the most essential aspect in English. It does not only influence oral form; speaking and listening but also written form; reading and writing. Obviously, vocabulary affects the four language skills as a key to succeed in mastering those skills.
From the statement above, it is clear that vocabulary is very important for those who wants to master English well. There are many factors that the students will master English vocabulary such as the interest,  motivation, or the using of some method in classroom. To teach the students in the classroom the teacher should have a good technique and preparation in teaching because the technique can help their students to understand more their lesson. According to Anthony in Richard and Rodgers (1986: 15), “a technique is an implementation that actually takes place in the classroom.” Technique can be also defined as the step down in the classroom in the application of the method.
One of strategies that can be used to make the students master vocabulary is Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy. This strategy involves students to choose the words they want to learn, chat about the rationale for selecting word and agree upon words for a classroom collection.
The purpose of Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy is to teach the students how to make decision about the important of concepts and how to use context to determine word meaning, so this can help the students become more aware of words in general and become especially attentive to ?????????????????????
