In our education system, English is a compulsory subject at secondary school. This is because English is an important international language which is used as a medium of communication by the most people in the world. Every human in the world always use language to communicate, give information, knowledge and express their idea and though.
Because of the importance of English, our government makes a policy about the use of English in our education system. The standard of content for the junior high school states that the target of English instruction in school is to enable the students to gain functional level of literacy (Depdiknas, 2006:277). At this particular level, students are expected to be able to communicate in both written and oral forms to overcome their challenges. A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT IN GUESSING AND MAKING INFERENCES TECHNIQUES

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT IN GUESSING AND MAKING INFERENCES TECHNIQUES
INTRODUCTION
English  is  an  important  subject  that  should  be  mastered  by  students  of  Senior High  School.  The  students  should  be  able  to  master  not  only  one  language  skill, but  also  the  other  skills  in  English,  i.e.  listening,  speaking,  reading,  and  writing. From  the  four  aspects,  the  research  focuses  only  on  reading  comprehension  of students  because  the  students  do  not  really  get  a  better  technique  to  comprehend the text.
Based on pre-observation of students in SMAN ???, it was found that  there  were  some  problems  which  students  faced  when  they  studied  English, especially in reading comprehension. The problems covered the low motivation of the students, vocabulary mastery, structure of a sentence, finding the main idea of a text, and generic structure of a text.
The students’ low motivation might be caused by teacher who less stimulates them  to  learn.  They  were  only  asked  to  read  passages  and  answer  the  questions with  no  explanation  about  it  before  the  teaching  process.  Consequently,  it  might make  them  be  more  confused  in  comprehending  the  text.  Besides,  the inappropriate  selection  of  the  text  which  was  discussed  in  the  class  might  not attract  the  students’  attention.  Therefore,  the  students  could  not  reach  the minimum criteria of required curriculum.
Likewise,  the  studies  (see,  e.g.  Ayu,  2013;  Andam,  2013;  and  Kurnia,  2013) indicate that SMA students experience many difficulties in their reading, such as?????????????????????????????????????????????

Instructional Strategy In Reading Class Of The Second Grade Students At Mts

INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY IN READING CLASS OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS AT MTS
CHAPTER  I
INTRODUCTION
This  chapter  presents  the  background  of  the  study,  statement  of  the Research problem, the purpose of the study, significance of the study, definitions of key terms and organization of the study.
A.  Background of the Research
Language is a form of human communication tool in the form of a symbol of a speech sound through headphones, where every sound that came from a sense. Language is a key staple for human life in this world, because the language is able to interact with a neighbor and language resources for the community. As for the language to be used when a mutual understanding or mutual understanding close  relationship  with  the  use  of  language  resources  that  we  have.  We  can understand the meaning and purpose of speaking or talking when we listen well to what is said. (Dept of Education, 2005: 3) Language is in fact self-expression and noticed people on a regular basis, which utilize sound as tool.
Reading and language learning are important. In this case reading can make someone successful in study and also by reading someone knows the world. In the class room every teacher usually asks the students such as how many times they have read something, but you may never have given much thought to haw words, sentences, and text mean. In the daily life, we understand of what we heard and read while other things we doubtless do not understand. However, we may seldom?????????????????

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT BETWEEN THOSE TAUGHT THROUGH PREDICTIVE

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT BETWEEN THOSE TAUGHT THROUGH PREDICTIVE
BAB I
INTRODUCTION
Reading  was  strongly  recommended  for  all  students  who  learn  English  subject.  By  reading,  the  students  can  get  information  and  knowledge  from  the  text.    The students are expected to be good at reading.  Good at reading means the students used  their  prior  knowledge  for  connecting  words  to  their  thoughts.    In  line  with the  concept  of  reading  as  an  active  process  which  was  important  when  reading process, the readers have to involve the interaction between thought and language.  In fact, based on the information from the teacher when the researcher conducted pre  research  in  SMAN  1  Kota,  the  teacher  said  that  some  students  were successful  in  comprehending  the  text  like  narrative  text  but  the  others  still  have some problems in comprehending the texts especially in getting the main idea and find the specific information from the text.  In addition, their problems were also related  to  some  factors  such  as,  identifying  the  main  idea  of  the  passage.  Moreover, the students also tended to be passive and the teacher was the centred, and  they  do  not  focus  during  the  learning  process.    When  the  teachers  give  the students  some  questions  and  asked  them  to  give  the  answer  directly,  they  could not answer or gave the responds quickly.
Moreover, there  was one important factor that  might also influence the students’ problems  in  reading  that  was  the  reading  technique.    Based  on  the  information from the students, they said that they got bored because the teacher used the same technique  in  every  reading  activity.    Therefore,  the  researcher  assumed  that  the students’ problems were also caused by the same old teaching technique used by???????????

An Item Analysis on English Summative Test for Second Grade Students of SMP

AN ITEM ANALYSIS ON ENGLISH SUMMATIVE TEST FOR SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
This  introduction  chapter  presents  background  of  the    study,  statement  of research    problems,    objectives    of    the    research,    significance    of    the    research,  scope and  limitation  of the  research,  and definition  of  key terms.
A.  Background  of the Research
Evaluation  is  an  important  part  of  every  teaching  and  learning experience.  It  gives  big  contribution  for  the  teaching  and  it  provides information about the students‟ progress which can be used by the teachers to manage  the  learning  task  and  students.  As  stated  by  Dicksin  et  al  (1992:3): “Evaluation  is  important  for  the  teacher  because  it  provides  a  wealth  of information  to  use  for  the  future  direction  of  classroom  practice,  for  the planning  of  courses  and  for  the  management  of  learning  tasks  and  students”. Evaluation  also  can  be  said  as  the  process  to  make  desirable  decision  toward teaching  and  learning  based  on  the  information  that  has  been  collected, synthesized,  and  reflected  on.  Lyle  F.  Bachman  (1990:22)  states,  “Evaluation can  be  defined  as  the  systematic  gathering  of  information  for  the  purpose  of making  decision”.
Depending  on  the  decision  being  made  and  the  information  a  teacher needs  in  order  to  inform  that  decision,  testing  often  contribute  to  the  process as  the  implementation  of  evaluation.  Surely,  a  test  is  one  kind  of  evaluation????
